You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results.”

–Mahatma Gandhi

The idea of “giving back” can have different meanings for different people, simply based on their life experiences, and views of the world around them. For some people, building a business that provides a stable income for their employees is a way for them to give back. For others, donating their time and money to help others who are down on their luck is how they define “giving back”. Yet still, for others, a combination of making a difference and providing aid to others is how they view the idea of giving back.

Regardless of how you define “giving back”, as a result of the act of giving back to others, you experience feelings of contentment, satisfaction, joy, and happiness. These are all feelings that we enjoy experiencing for ourselves and want to experience again and again. We are currently living in a time when the ability to give back and help others is prevalent and opportunities are essentially knocking on our door. Whether it be your neighbor, friend, or a complete stranger that needs help, there are opportunities everywhere you look to give back.

Oftentimes people feel compelled to give back as they have benefited from others’ generosity in the past, or simply because they feel as though they have been richly blessed and feel as though it is their calling to pass their good fortune onto those who aren’t as fortunate. Giving back isn’t simply placing spare change into a coin collection jar at the local grocery store, or buying a meal for a homeless person, it is so much more!

One of the most common ways in which people feel compelled to give back is when they feel as though there isn’t much else they can do to show love and support. This often occurs when an individual passes away unexpectedly, as was the case with A Good Cause’s campaign for Xander. This campaign allowed for others to donate monetary donations to help his family with the funeral and other expenses associated with his passing. When someone passes unexpectedly it can often place a financial hardship on their loved ones, which is why giving back and donating monetary donations can help to ease the burden and make the difficult time a little easier to bear.

thankful, happy, greatful woman

Often times life can through unexpected curveballs into our otherwise well-thought-out plans for our lives. Sometimes these curveballs are for the best in the form of an unexpected opportunity or good news. Other times, these instances can be viewed as a roadblock, something that brings pain and hardship rather than joy and happiness, as was the case with A Good Cause’s campaign for Ryan Jackson. Medical expenses and extended treatment are costly, yet essential, even life-altering for some. Having the opportunity to give back to others, to help them get through a difficult time can make a world of difference. Knowing that they have support from friends, family, and neighbors to help cover the cost of treatment and medical bills can relieve stress, allowing them to focus on healing and recovery.

Another popular way in which communities are able to give back is by supporting local schools, teams, and organizations. We all know that the children and youth in our communities are the future of our communities; which is why it is important that we do all that we can to support them, and ensure that they are provided with opportunities that will help to shape them into the leaders of tomorrow. Sports are a great way for kids and youth to get involved and learn valuable life lessons, but sports are not always affordable for all to participate in. Because sports are important, A Good Cause has campaigns to help raise funds for sports teams, such as the Payson High School Volleyball team. This particular campaign was used for team members to raise money to cover the cost of equipment and individual fees associated with being a part of the team. By donating to this campaign, and others is providing an opportunity to give back by providing opportunities for the kids and youth you know to learn, grow, and shape their future.

Other ways that make it possible for you to give back to your community is through fundraisers and campaigns that are focused on helping neighborhoods, and groups of people rather than individuals. An example of this is the Bodega Makeover campaign featured on agoodcause.com. The idea behind the Bodega Makeover is to provide healthier options to their communities. Through their fundraising efforts,  they are hoping to provide healthy options for racially and ethnically diverse communities, by performing renovations on stores and healthy eating options in local neighborhoods and communities. By donating to a cause similar to the Bodega Makeover, you are apart of making a difference, by making these changes a reality.

There are other ways in which you can give back to causes that need our help, regardless of where we know them or not, regardless of where they are located. One way in which you can give back and make a big difference is through donations made to A Good Cause’s ongoing campaign for Disaster Relief. All donations received for the disaster relief efforts will be donated to reputable charities that are committed to providing relief and assistance to victims and communities affected by natural disasters. Because natural disasters can happen anywhere, at any time, donating to a disaster relief fund is a great way to give back and pay it forward, as you never know when or if you’ll be the victim of a natural disaster and need assistance someday.

A couple of times a year, we hear a lot about our military and the ways in which you can support them. These reminders often come around Memorial Day and Veterans Day. But, what about every day in between? What about the service members who leave their families for long deployments to protect the freedoms that we enjoy every day? What about the small child who goes to bed every night asking when their parent is going to come home, only to not remember them when they do come back? This is the reality that a lot of service members and their families face every day. It is this daily sacrifice that our military families make every time their service member leaves that was the inspiration for the Military Families Fortified campaign. Through their efforts, you can be a part of something great! Dedicated to providing resources to military families to help them navigate the challenges that they face while their loved one serves, as a way of expressing gratitude for their service and sacrifice. This ongoing campaign, relies on donations, as a way to not only make their mission possible but as a way to allow for others to give back to those who give so much.
These are just a few ways in which you can give back to help and support others. Together we can all make a difference, in giving back and making the world a better place for future generations who in turn will want to give back, because they have seen your example and want to continue making the world a better place.
